Course Introduction
A good makeup artist can make you feel a million dollars, whereas makeup applied incorrectly or with little talent and training, can look like a painted on mask and make you feel like a clown.
A good makeup procedure defines your features, enhancing the good points while minimizing the faults. It can also help protect your skin from dehydration, sunlight, dust and dirt. Ideally, it should allow your face to be a natural reflection of your personality, and provide a boost to your self-esteem. Whether you wear just a moisturiser with sunscreen with a light touch of eye makeup and lip colour, or foundation, powder, blusher and the whole range is entirely a matter of personal choice.
Unless you resort to cosmetic surgery, your basic facial structure cannot be changed. There is however, a great deal you can do with subtle shading, highlighting and blending to disguise or soften features you dislike, such as a crooked nose or uneven lips. Concealers and foundations can cover up dark circles under the eyes, even out skin tones, camouflage spots and veins.
And of course you can emphasize your best features too. A good makeup artist will use their skills and experience to accentuate their client’s best features and use their natural colouring as a guide when choosing shades that will complement their skin and hair. They will also ensure the makeup does not clash with the clothing they are wearing, nor be inappropriate for the occasion they are attending.
