Course Introduction
Massage as a therapy has evolved out of one of our most instinctive desires – the desire to touch and be touched. We touch each other for many reasons: to show love, offer security, suggest empathy….but also to make us feel better. As a species we can exist without many things, but physical contact is not one of them.
Most therapists, and certainly those who work holistically, believe that regular body massage can release emotional tension and promote physical health, gradually restoring the whole person to balanced health, especially when used in conjunction with Aromatherapy Oils.
Aromatherapy is based on the principle that an aromatic plant oil (also called an essential oil) contains the correct balance required to enable the body to heal itself. Aromatic plant oils work with the body to relax or stimulate and reinforce its own natural healing processes. Aromatherapy affects the cognitive (how we think) and emotional (how we feel) processes of the body and mind in a variety of ways. In fact, all the properties, and none of the side effects of tailor-made drugs occur naturally in plants, and their benefits are extracted through essential oils.
This course marries the two modalities of Swedish Massage and Aromatherapy Oils by combining a professional massage procedure with the in-depth information of the oils, for the total benefit of the client.
