Claire Coleman started her first Beauty Salon – Beauty and Beyond – in 1993 in a southern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Over the next few years she studied Natural and Chinese Medicine, Clinical Acupuncture and Remedial Massage, and added these to her treatment menu.
By 2002 the business had outgrown its premises and a purpose built facility was needed. The Centre of Wellness was built and opened its doors to a full tenant list that included Beauty & Beyond, a Naturopathic Clinic, Hair Salon, Podiatrist, Chiropractor, Counsellors, Psychic, Meditation, Pilates, Yoga and Feldenkrais.
In 2003 a Beauty and Massage Training School was added, RTO status was gained and Government Registered Diploma level Courses were offered, including the Diploma of Beauty Therapy, Diploma of Massage, Diploma of Reflexology and Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy.
The success of this Training and Treatment Facility demanded that a second Centre of Wellness be opened in the northern suburbs in 2005, and then in 2008 a third Facility was added in the eastern Suburbs of Perth.
The north and south facilities were sold, RTO status was relinquished, and by 2011 the format of the courses was changed as Claire recognised a void in the Perth Training Industry – the need for short specialist practical courses, run as one-on-one training.
This format also proved extremely successful, but was self-limiting as to the number of students that could be accommodated. Demand basically exceeded supply, so Claire decided to engage a Channel 9 cameraman to film her in action teaching her courses to the camera on a one-to-one basis.
There are 20 intensive courses that offer comprehensive theory books, step by step written procedures, and personalized hands-on training videos to anyone wanting to work from home, expand their Salon Treatment Menu, update their skills, or just indulge a passion. The practical component is identical to what is taught at Diploma Level in Beauty and Massage Therapy, so the student is guaranteed up-to-date, practical knowledge and the benefit of over 25yrs experience in the Natural Health, Massage and Beauty Industry.
The Centre of Wellness believes in making education accessible to everyone. That’s why we decided to take our courses online, to make training and career opportunities available to everyone, regardless of location.
Since 2016 we have been involved with the Boston Children Centre (B.C.C) in Nairobi. The B.C.C project is located in Kenya in the Eastlands of Nairobi, Kayole at the heart of Matopeni. The organization aims to provide a well-rounded free education for all children in Matopeni and the neighbouring estates regardless of their religion, gender, social status, or tribe, so as to give them all an opportunity to escape poverty, to have access to meaningful employment and to lead future fulfilling lives.
Centre of Wellness currently sponsors two children, Harriet & Benjamin. With the support of Boston Children Centre, Harriet is attending 8th grade, and Benjamin completed High School and has been accepted at Laikipia University to pursue a four-year degree course in Bachelor of Science in Economics and Statistics.
